è First see the topics of General Studies in SSC notification, and divide it into three chapters “S+S+C”= Static + Science + Crap and must study something in GS on daily basis.

è 80% of the GS section comes from Static and Science Portion so try to strong this part. Static means Polity, Indian History & Culture, Geography and Economy.

è Crap portion means Person in news, Awards, Sports, Books, Current Affairs, Government institution, govt schemes, important dates and miscellaneous GK.

è Try to learn short tricks of General studies; Short tricks are available in our Study MaterialSection. Also we continuously post the tricks available to us on our Facebook page. Always jot down the short tricks so you will not forget them.

è Current affairs can be cover by daily newspaper reading. We usually upload current affairs summary on the website after the end of each month. Download it from the Study material [email protected]

è Please give at least one to two hours daily to General Studies.

è Evaluate your performance by solving mock practice paper (all 04 sections) of Tier I on daily basis. Practice papers are available in our Practice Paper section. You can download it or purchase practice paper book like kiran from market.

Suggestions -
è SSC always repeats the questions, around 50% questions are taken from previous papers of CGL, CHSL, MTS & others ssc exams, CDS, NDS, etc. Please go though all previous year papers.

è Download previous year papers & practice papers from [email protected] practice paper section with solution. Each practice paper contains the questions from various exams like Railway, SSC, UPSC, PCS etc, so these practice papers will be very beneficial for you.

è In GS Section do not try to attempt (Tukka) the question, whose answer you didn’t know due to Negative marking.

è Keep update yourself with 01 year current affairs like person in news (Like CJI, ICC Player of the year, Oscars, Army chiefs etc), Books & Authors, Government schemes, places in news etc. Suppose your exam is on 27th of April 2014 than prepare current affairs from April 2013 to March 2014. If you find 01 years current affairs lengthy than prepare the current affairs from the month of notification to the 01 month before the exam dates.

è 1st read & understand the NCERT books of each subject than brush up your knowledge with Lucent General Knowledge & @ssc-cgl2014.in website study material.

  • Sir. A thick book of Tata Macgrawill General Studies Manual is sufficient for SSC CGL even related to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Policy & Scientific Research? Both old and new version of NCERT are equally? I heard many coaching recommended older version of NCERT for all the competitive exams. Thank you in advance

    1. If you are talking about TMH General Studies for Civil Services Preliminary Examination Paper - 1 book for ssc cgl exam, then this book has more than enough material for SSC CGL GS, Yes older version of NCERT is better for competitive exam but for ssc exam both NCERT books are good. Older & newer both versions are available for download at NCERT website.

  • But Newer version of NCERT does not help much in this history/culture related MCQs/Descriptive. Even Buddism, Jainism related basic GK-MCQs is not covered properly. Its useless for history on NEW NCERT. Indian History NCERT Textbooks

For Indian History, serious candidates obtain the following old syllabus NCERT history text books, published in 1990, if you can get them somehow. They are currently out of print but are highly recommended.

Ancient India (class XI) authored by RS Sharma. This covers the ancient Indian history syllabus completely. I do not have any pdf. Do you have any pdf? If no, leave that.

Medieval India (class IX) for covering medieval India syllabus authored by Satish Chandra. I do not have any pdf. Do you have any pdf? If no, leave that.

Modern India (class X) text book of old syllabus authored by Bipin Chandra. I keep a pdf.

If I cannot find old syllabus History NCERTs, view their alternatives by the same authors.

    http://www.flipkart.com/india-s-ancient-past-new-ed/p/itmczytarhqwjgcb?pid=9780195687859

we realize that Ancient Past by RS Sharma covers the entire scope of the old syllabus NCERT and goes even further into the transition between ancient and medieval past of India.

    http://www.flipkart.com/history-medieval-india-01/p/itmdytkfgwnuz7gt?affid=trojanfell

The second book is History of Medieval India by Satish Chandra who had authored the old syllabus NCERT on medieval Indian history.

If you think there is no need to buy specifically both of books only, leave them. I do not want to waste time worrying abt older version of NCERT over GA. Thank you in advance

    1. Are you preparing for SSC exams or UPSC exams.. In ssc exam, they always ask simple one liner questions, which can even cover by Lucent.

Both the books are good especially for civils exam, who have history as optional subject. In case you want to do detailed study of history in one book then I suggest Krishna Reddy's History of India, which will cover every exam history questions

    3. In English SSC always follow a fixed pattern ..
The breakup of questions is like this - Vocabulary based - 20% Grammar based - 45% Comprehension and sentences arrangement - 35%... Go through the all rules of grammar & must buy a book of reading comprehension, Always remember to not underestimate the difficulty level of a passage and keep your brains open. Do not allow your own knowledge of the subject of the passage divert your attention. If you will get command on these two section than you will cover 80% of question, for vocab word power made easy is a good book, apart from it buy some book of common One word, Idioms & phrases to cover remaining 20% ..
      Thanks & Regards
